Gemstones
We love working with our clients to produce bespoke pieces, which incorporates of signature Rachel Jones aesthetic. Over the years we have had the pleasure of making truly one-of-a-kind pieces of fine jewellery. Examples of some of our previous commissions can viewed on our Previous Commission and Commitment galleries.
Whether you’re marking a special occasion or simply treating yourself or a loved one, we can work with you to produce the perfect piece in several ways: customising an existing design, completely bespoke or repurposing heirloom jewellery.
Opals
Opals are renowned for their captivating play of colour and come in several distinct types, including Black, White, Crystal, Boulder and Fire Opal.
Black Opal
Known for its dark body tone, black opal exhibits vibrant flashes of colour, often with a stark contrast that enhances brightness and pattern visibility. It is considered the most valuable type of opal and is primarily sourced from Lightning Ridge in Australia.
White Opal
Featuring a light or white body tone, white opal displays colour play that tends to be more subtle compared to black opal. These opals are commonly found in South Australia and are prized for their delicate, soft appearance.
Boulder Opal
Found embedded in ironstone boulders, boulder opal showcases veins or patches of precious opal within the host rock. Its natural matrix often complements the vibrant colours, making each piece unique. Queensland is the main location for boulder opal mining.
Crystal Opal
These opals are transparent to semi-transparent, allowing the play-of-colour to appear extremely vivid and deep. Crystal opals may have either a dark or light body tone and are highly valued for their clarity and intense colour.
Fire Opal
Distinguished by its warm body colours such as yellow, orange or red, fire opal typically lacks the vibrant play of colour seen in other opals but is valued for its glowing ‘fire’. It is mainly sourced from Mexico.
Sapphires
You may have a completely, unique one-of-a-kind piece in mind based Rachel’s signature aesthetic. We have worked with multiple clients who love Rachel’s designs but are looking for something a little different.
Working with Rachel, clients are part of the process throughout, allowing them to put their ideas forward into a piece of jewellery. The first steps are to have a discussion with Rachel in order to get an idea of what you are looking for. Then from this consultation Rachel can work on drawings and ideas as well as sourcing stones if required for you to view. Once the design has been agreed and fine tuned we begin the making process.
Diamonds
You may have pieces of jewellery that have been inherited, that have been gifted or that you no longer wear. These pieces can be given a new lease of life by resetting the stones, melting and reworking the metal into a Rachel Jones design.
The image of the left is a ring commission we created for a couple using heirloom gold, diamonds and a sapphire. Based on our signature Asymmetric Speckle rings.
We’re always really happy to discuss any of these options, please do get in touch for a chat via email or our contact form.
Tourmalines
Bespoke commissions usually take between 6-12 weeks depending on the complexity of the design or the processes involved to make your pieces. This time frame also includes your piece being sent to the Assay Office to be Hallmarked.
We hold in-person or remote appointments depending on your needs or location. We will discuss what piece you are looking to have made as well as budgets, sizing, gemstone and metal preferences.
For gemstone pieces we require a £100 stone sourcing fee which is deductible from your final quote.
We can also arrange scrapping heirloom or your unworn jewellery as part payment, otherwise we have a two-part payment plan, with a 50% deposit placed to confirm you’d like to proceed.
