MAKE YOUR OWN WEDDING RINGS

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at making jewellery, we hold courses at our central London studio including ‘Make your own Wedding Rings’ For more information, availability and to book, view our workshops or get in touch.

How does the workshop work?

You will spend the morning with Rachel making your rings in silver to practice your chosen design and become familiar with the tools and techniques needed. We will then spend the afternoon working in gold or platinum to create your rings using the skills you have learned earlier in the day.

how much does it cost?

Our workshops are £495 per couple plus materials. During our initial consultation we will discuss your design and from this provide a quote for the cost of materials. For those with heirloom gold the workshop is £595 which covers £495 for the workshop and £100 gold processing fee.

Book your consultation

We offer a free 30 minute consultation before your workshop to try on ring samples in our central London studio. It allows you to see the different options available and from this we can provide an accurate quote for the gold that will be needed.

After the consultation we will email you the cost of the gold based on your chosen design and after you place your deposit the metal will be ordered in prepration of the workshop. Please note that quotes are only vaild for 3 days due to the fluctuating gold prices.

Our consultations are held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s between 10am and 6pm subject to our availability. Please let us know your preferred date and time in your contact form or email.

Rachel & Ian

My husband and I made our own wedding rings in 18ct yellow gold, making the gold alloy ourselves using fine gold, fine silver and copper. The alloyed gold was made into wire and shaped into our wedding bands.

The pictures show the making process including melting, shaping and cutting the gold and our happy faces after making our own wedding rings!

If you have your own heirloom gold we can use that to make your wedding rings, just get in touch for more information.

FAQ’s

When are the workshops?

We can hold the workshops on weekdays and weekends dependant on availability and they run from 10am until 5pm.

What can we make?

Almost anything! We have a wide range of silver sample rings for you to try on to help decide what ring you would like to make with various textures and finishes. If you have a mood board of ideas, do share it with us.

What metals can we use?

We can work with various precious metals including red, white and yellow gold in 9ct and 18ct. We only have a few styles of 14ct and 22ct yellow as well as platinum available.

How much will the metal cost?

The price of the metal can vary depending on the carat (gold percentage, 9ct - 37.5%, 14ct - 58.5%, 18ct - 75%, 22ct - 91.6%) and the heavier or chunkier your design the more gold you will need as gold is priced per gram.

Can we take our rings home on the day?

We offer every ring the opportunity to be hallmarked by the London Assay Office after each workshop and this process usually takes around one week. The Assay Office, London was established in the 1300’s and is responsible for testing and stamping items of precious metals to ensure the consumer is getting the quality of gold that they are paying for.

Can you give an estimate of how much gold we will need?

We ask our couples to come to our studio before doing the workshop to look at samples and from there we can work out an accurate quote. We would say that rings start at £150 for a delicate ladies’ band up to £750 for a heavy man’s style ring.

Where are you located?

We are based at Cockpit Studios in Bloomsbury, London. You can get to us from Farringdon (15min walk) or Holborn (10min walk) as well as several bus routes such as the 19, 55, 38. Our postcode is WC1N 2NP.

What if we have our own gold?

We can work with your heirloom gold and Rachel will advise you as to if it’s useable and she will melt down and prepare you gold into wire before the workshop as this is a time consuming process. For those wanting to use heirloom gold we charge a £100 processing fee as we will need additional time to test, melt, shape and form the gold into your desired wire profile.

When do we have our first consultation?

We ask you to come in for a free 30 minute consultation as soon as possible so that we can book in a workshop date with plenty of time before your wedding.

JACOB & NATASHA

Jacob and Natasha founder of Urban Cordial came to us to make their own wedding rings. Jacob created Natasha’s ring from his heirloom 18ct gold while she created his in silver to have produced in platinum later.

Here are just some of the moments captured during their day with Rachel in her previous London workshop.

"We really had the best time and it feels so wonderful to know our craft is going into our rings!” - Jacob & Natasha
